D'xel is a 36-year-old (as of Dawntrail) Miqo'te who hails from the far northern region of Dalmasca. He is blunt, brash, and headstrong but hides his abrasive personality behind the persona "Rollo." The facade tends to slip during high stress, leading to a drastic personality change.
Rollo
Rollo is a much calmer version of D'xel, built upon years of being a retainer. He puts the well-being and happiness of others before his own. He speaks formally and is quick to apologize and put himself down due to his own insecurities.Regardless of personality, he is intimidated by those older than him and scared of moogles and the Fae. He is constantly tired due to the Fae.

Rollo can't lift his right arm due to injuries sustained in adolescence. The injuries still cause him pain, and thus he takes pain meds.
He stays up late reading and doesn't tend to sleep well. He has dark circles around his eyes.
He was falsely accused of fraud and stealing a large amount of money from his past employer. His wages are being garnished to pay off the debt.
The retainer association has him on a tight leash. The instant Mousey complains to them, Rollo will be sent to jail.
History
D'xel was born into a miqo'te clan that lives in northern Dalmasca, right on the border of Skatay Range. The living situation was rough due to the constant threat of the Garlean invasion, so he didn't have a great childhood. His father and grandfather were both strict with him, and he was helping out as soon as he could walk.The hunting party of his clan had frequent run-ins with Veena wood wardens, leaving many injured. D'xel was no exception, receiving multiple arrows to his shoulder during one of his first hunts. The location of one arrow; and the notched surgery to remove it that followed, left his shoulder in a state it wasn't usable.He chose to hide the state of his injury, either by pushing himself or by doing other chores. Nonetheless he still got in a big fight with his father, leaving a scar on his face. Shortly after D'xel was offered a chance to travel to Erozea by another Dalmascan refugee and took it without hesitation.The miqo’te worked odd jobs once in Eorzea and put in an application for the Eorzean Retainer Association. Which to his surprise was accepted. He started crafting the persona “Rollo” in an effort to keep his more abrasive personality from costing him his job. His first master encouraged the young miqo’te to keep in contact with his family, and even arranged a trip so he could go see them again.During that trip he met Mousey for the first time, only spotting the terrified kit peeking at him from behind his grandfather. Rollo did get into an argument with his parents over his choice of profession, but before he left he told his grandfather if they ever had to flee further north, he would do what he could to keep the viera from having to return to the woods.Years later, after witnessing the fall of Dalamud and losing his master and many of his friends in the battle, Rollo received a letter from his folks asking for his help getting the viera to Erozea. His new master agreed to sponsor the trip, only to pull back once funds were spent. Rollo was lucky to avoid imprisonment when the adventurer cried foul, but he was suspended by the retainer association and forced to repay the money.D'xel went back to working odd jobs and favors for a few years before being approached by a retainer vocate. He could have his job back, and to have that debt removed, if he would take a potentially difficult client. D'xel recognized Mousey instantly who had a distinct injury on one ear. The viera at the time was both illiterate and functionally mute, but the two worked out a system.These days Rollo reads out and writes letters, memos and other documents, manages the other two retainers and unwillingly deals with the fae. He also helps with Mousey's search for his home (assumed to be in an auspices domain) locating books and other info, but it's been mostly dead ends.

The two had only met once before Rollo was assigned to Mousey.Due to the circumstances of his early life, Mousey is illiterate and relies on Echo and the bard soul stone for communication. He tends to avoid people.Rollo still doesn't know what contract Mousey signed with the retainer organization, and makes sure the Viera knows exactly what he's signing.

D'xels grandfather, also known as Pawpaw. He stepped down as Nuhn, but stayed strict with the younger miqo’te in the clan. He mellowed down after D'xel left, and even more when he found Mousey.Rollo inherited his journal after he passed, and he gave it to Mousey.
